A modern take on a much-loved mid-century Lorne retreat
This thoughtful renovation was completed in carefully planned stages, ensuring the home retained the character and warmth the clients had loved for decades. As a cherished Lorne holiday home, durability was essential, but so too was honouring its mid-century charm and the quintessential coastal style the property embodies.
The new kitchen was designed as a modern interpretation of the original — familiar in layout, but elevated through smarter use of space and contemporary functionality. Integrated appliances, generous preparation zones and improved workflow were all incorporated with large-scale family cooking in mind, reflecting the way the owners regularly gather here. A considered colour palette draws inspiration from the surrounding native trees and complements the existing cedar lining boards, creating a cohesive, grounded aesthetic. Hard-wearing floor coverings were selected to withstand frequent use while respecting the relaxed, mid-century feel of the home.
Beyond the kitchen, Briody Constructions delivered a full refresh of the wider living spaces, including updated carpets and finishes to bring new life to areas long enjoyed by the family. The renovation also included a new roof, ensuring the home was structurally sound and protected from water ingress — giving the owners confidence that this would be the last major work required for many years to come.
The result is a revived, functional and beautifully balanced coastal retreat that preserves everything the clients love about their long-time holiday home, while providing modern comfort for the next chapter of family memories.
